Interested? Application Process.

This is for any BYU student that is interested in the Washington Seminar...because it is quite a process! ANY major can apply...it's not just for political science majors...mine isn't even political science. They have internships for medical, education, business, computer tech...anything! Realize this is a placement program...getting accpeted does not mean you have an internship. The Washington Seminar has a 100% placement rate though, so I wouldn't worry!

Qualifications: 3.0 GPA, must be a Junior, must be a BYU student, and of course you must follow the honor code.

Begin with going to http://www.washingtonseminar.byu.edu/. You can access the application instructions here. Basically, it consists of filling out two forms, a resume, two letters of recommendation-one from a professor and one from an employer or another professor. Don't use your mom's best friend...not professional. You will also need a writing sample...a paper you got an "A" on. You will also need to order your transcripts online at http://www.byu.edu/ and have them sent to washingtonseminar@byu.edu. It costs 5 bucks which is annoying, but oh well!

Once you have everything submitted, you will be contact for an interview. You will have an interview with Dawna Miner and Scott Dunaway, the program directors. These people have it down to an art! You will then recieve an email either accpeting you or denying you.

It's important to realize that once you are accepted, it's not over. Placement interviews will follow, along with finalizing your placement list, filling out additional forms, applying for financial aid, and writing cover statements. They will put you in a class that will explain all of this...after I got accepeted I experienced the busiest two weeks of my life. Advice: DON'T PROCRASTINATE!!
